Our perspective paper on "Thermal Radiation with a Twist" has been selected for the cover of the prestigious journal Science. This is an incredible honor that highlights the cutting-edge and foundational nature of our research.
Thermal radiation, like the heat and light from the sun, is generally considered chaotic and incoherent. Our work explores a new paradigm where it is possible to impart a degree of order to this radiation. More specifically, our paper shows how the research community, including our own group, is using specially engineered materials, metasurfaces, and even twisted carbon nanotubes to study and control the angular momentum (or handedness) of this otherwise disordered heat radiation.
This perspective piece is a comprehensive overview of recent breakthroughs in the field and signals a major shift in how scientists are thinking about heat and light. We are proud to be at the forefront of this new area of research.
